What Is Radiesse®?
Radiesse® is composed of Calcium Hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres suspended in an aqueous gel carrier of sodium carboxymethylcellulose (CMC). Unlike hyaluronic acid fillers, such as Restylane® and Juvederm®, Radiesse® dermal fillers stimulate collagen production for ongoing improvements in skin quality and firmness, as well as immediately adding volume to restore more youthful contours.
Radiesse® injections were first FDA-approved in 2006 for treating folds and wrinkles in the face, and over six million procedures have been performed since. In 2015, Radiesse® received FDA-approval for treating volume loss in the backs of the hands.
In addition to rejuvenating the hands and face, Sherisse can also use Radiesse® to sculpt the buttocks. A Radiesse® butt lift can create perkier, firmer buttock contours over the course of a series of treatments and can be a good option for patients seeking a minor-to-moderate volume increase in the area.
Radiesse® Treatment Benefits & Key Information
How Radiesse® Works
Radiesse® injections provide immediate lifting and firming by replacing lost volume in the treated areas. However, its effects do not stop there – they continue over the next three months as the CaHA particles work to trigger collagen formation in the treated area.
Increased collagen production promotes smoothing, tightening, and subtle lifting effects.
One unique property of Radiesse® is that it can be hyper-diluted and used primarily as a skin rejuvenator. When the procedure is performed this way, more pronounced improvements in skin quality and appearance can be achieved.
What to Expect After a Radiesse® Treatment
Radiesse® treatments last anywhere from six to 18 months. Everyone breaks it down a bit differently. Most patients plan to come in once per year for a maintenance treatment. Many times, fewer syringes are used at that time because some product remains.

Radiesse® FAQs
What Is a Radiesse® Treatment Like?
Sherisse will perform your Radiesse® filler injections in one of SHADe’s private treatment rooms. A topical numbing cream can be applied at the start of your appointment to prevent discomfort during the injections, though many patients do not find this necessary.
Sherisse will locate the optimal sites for your injections and will then use a thin needle to inject small amounts of Radiesse®, as needed, to achieve your desired outcome. After the injections, she may massage the treated area to evenly disperse the dermal filler, ensuring smooth, natural-looking results.
Where can I get Radiesse® filler?
You can receive Radiesse® injections in the face, hands, and butt to add volume and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Common treatments include:
- Temples/cheeks
- Chin/jawline
- Neck
- Hands
- Buttocks
- Thighs
- Upper arms
How many Radiesse® treatments do I need?
Most patients achieve optimal results with just one Radiesse® treatment and come back once a year for maintenance injections. However, depending on your aesthetic goals, the treatment area, and how your body responds to the filler, a follow-up session may be sooner or later than a year.
How long do the Radiesse® fillers last?
Radiesse® typically lasts 6 to 18 months, though results can vary depending on the treatment area and your body’s natural metabolism. Radiesse® dermal fillers have immediate results and the extended benefit of natural collagen stimulation.
What is the difference between Radiesse® filler and Juvederm ®?
The main difference is in their composition and results:
- Radiesse® is made from calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres, which not only provide volume but also stimulate collagen production for long-term improvement.
- Juvederm® is a hyaluronic acid-based filler that provides immediate volume and hydration, ideal for facial contouring and wrinkle reduction.
During your consultation at our aesthetic med spa in Issaquah, WA, we will determine which filler injections will best suit your needs.
What is the difference between Radiesse® filler and Sculptra® for butt lifts ?
Both injectables can be used for natural-looking results by stimulating collagen growth for body contouring and non-surgical butt lifts. The main differences are that Radiesse® provides instant volume and firmer, more lifted results. Whereas Sculptra® gradually builds volume over time, offering a more subtle, progressive body enhancement.
